NY Times Features Alum Thomas Mariadason’s Letter to the Editor on Quotas at Colleges

Alum Thomas Mariadason’s (’09) Letter to the Editor about quotas for Asian-Americans at colleges was published in the New York Times. His letter responds to a December 19 op-ed piece on implicit quotas for Asian-Americans at colleges and universities. Mariadason, a staff attorney at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), writes that recent “complaints of anti-Asian bias at Ivy League schools resulted in extensive investigations, but no findings of such bias.” Mariadason also notes that many Asian-Americans “come from communities pervasively underrepresented in higher education” and “notions of ‘merit’ limited to certain standards of academic performance negatively affect Asian students, too.”
