Statement by Chancellor Matthew Goldstein on Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2013-14 Executive Budget Proposal

January 22, 2013 | The University

“We commend Governor Cuomo on proposing an Executive Budget for 2013-14 that maintains the financial stability of The City University of New York, advances the ability of the University to further contribute to the preparation of the State’s workforce and helps assure the educational and economic well-being of the citizenry.

“The University especially applauds the inclusion for the first time of a CUNY 2020 capital program, which will allow CUNY colleges to propose and compete for resources essential to economic development and employment opportunities. We are reviewing the proposed long term capital plan, consistent with the University’s ongoing efforts to modernize its campuses.

“CUNY is also very much encouraged by the Governor’s innovative proposal to provide additional support for community colleges aligned with employer needs. This recognition of the importance of community colleges in advancing both the career and higher education aspirations of a growing student population throughout New York can become a model program in our nation. We look forward to continuing to work with the Office of the Governor, The New York State Senate, and The New York State Assembly during the Executive Budget review process.”
