Fabiana Araujo (’13) and Sarika Saxena (’13) on Future of Guantanamo Detainee

Fabiana Araujo (’13) and Sarika Saxena (’13) represent Guantanamo detainee Abdulhadi Faraj as part of their work with CUNY Law’s Immigrant & Non-Citizen Rights Clinic (INRC). The U.S. government cleared Faraj for release from Guantanamo in 2009, but because of the risk of torture and now the civil war in Syria, Faraj’s homeland, he cannot be returned there. Araujo and Saxena are working to encourage the United States to resettle Faraj in an alternative country, and they are looking toward Brazil as a possible option.
