Daisy Chung (’09) on Restaurant That Bans Tips and Pays Servers a Salary

Alum Daisy Chung (’09), executive director for Restaurant Opportunities Center of New York (ROC-NY), spoke to ABC News about the restaurant Sushi Yasuda. The restaurant put its employees on salary with paid vacation and sick leave and started banning tips. Chung said providing a salary with benefits was a good idea. “We definitely feel there shouldn’t be a separate system where tip workers rely on tips to subsidize their wages,” said Chung. “Workers should be fully compensated.”
