Baruch College Students Host “Get Out the Vote” Rally September 3

August 27, 2013 | Baruch College

NEW YORK, NY- August 27, 2013 – The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) of Baruch College is encouraging college students and the community to vote during the upcoming election. USG is hosting a “Get Out the Vote” rally from 12:30 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m., September 3, on the 25th street plaza (between Lexington and 3rd Avenues).

USG collaborated on this event with the CUNY University Student Senate (USS), New York Public Interest Research Group, and the Board of Elections to invite students from all CUNY schools to attend the rally.

Michael Harris, USG Vice President of Legislative Affairs, hopes the rally will inform voters about local issues and political candidates who are seeking election in districts throughout the city.

“A larger number of citizens vote in larger elections, which is unfortunate for all of the City Councilmembers whose hard work and campaigning often goes unrecognized,” Harris said. “I would hope that we can encourage students to not only vote for mayor but to find out who is running in their district and vote in those elections as well, because those elections are just as important.”

The rally will include voter registration sign-up, welcome remarks from USG and USS leaders and student performances.

Club Co-sponsors for the event include: Accounting Society, Debate Team, Golden Key, Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Delta, WBMB Baruch College Radio, Pre-Law Society, Alpha Phi Alpha and Lambda Upsilon Lambda, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, and the International Student Organization.

Visit Baruch’s Student Life Website for updates on this event and future student events.
