Professor Cynthia Soohoo, director of the CUNY Law International Women’s Human Rights Clinic, delivered opening remarks at a conference marking the 40th Anniversary of the 1973 Coup D’Etat in Chile, held on September 9, 2013. Soohoo’s remarks framed a historic gathering of the lawyers and jurists whose efforts brought coup leader Augusto Pinochet to justice for crimes against humanity. Their efforts led to development of groundbreaking legal and human rights doctrines. The educational panels of the conference were presented by the Charles Horman Truth Foundation, and co-sponsored by CUNY School of Law, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the Institute for Policy Studies, and the North American Congress on Latin America.
