The Nation: Diala Shamas on FBI Surveillance of Muslims

In The Nation magazine, Diala Shamas, staff attorney with the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR) project at CUNY Law, discusses the similarities between the surveillance on American Muslims by both the New York Police Department and the FBI.

Shamas is the coauthor of the CLEAR report Mapping Muslims: NYPD Spying and its Impact on American Muslims, which report documents the effects of the New York Police Department’s (NYPD’s) extensive surveillance program targeting American Muslims throughout the Northeast. It is based on in-depth interviews and presents an unprecedented collection of voices of affected community members.
