City Tech Student Teams Take Two Blue Ribbons, Earn Jury Felicitations at 2013 International Restaurant Show
Congratulations to all City Tech Hospitality Management students, faculty and staff who helped plan or participated in the 2013 International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show, November 9-12, at Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The Confectionery Team’s Occasional Cake received Felicitations of the Jury and the City Tech team table garnered two blue ribbons.
Student Garde Manger Team participants were Carlos Cole, Nelson Corona, George Brittney, Jessica Hernandez, Faith Johnson, Jodian Laird, Brian Lindsay, Linda Luo, Martin Miller, Kenneth Palacios, Kiba Perez, Sherri Royes, Elizabeth Ubinas and Kimberley Woodberry. Student Confectionery Team members were Milton Barrera, Magou Camara, Paula Charles, Min Jee Lee, Amy Maharaj, Erica Press, Amanda Zhang and Yomaris Estrella.
City Tech faculty members who competed in the Culinary Salon sponsored by the Sociétié Philanthropique and the awards they won were Mark Hellermann, silver medal for sugar centerpiece; Robert Walljasper, silver medal for garde manger platter; and Jean Claude, bronze medal for garde manger platter. Other faculty and staff who taught and coached the student participants were Thomas Harris, Anthony Smith and Susan Lowry. The organizing committee consisted of faculty members Elizabeth Schaible, John Akana, Louise Hoffman, Claire Stewart and Jioanne Jacus.

The show featured intimate, targeted networking events, inspiring pop-up spaces, on-floor education theatres and energized buyers ready to do business.
