Baruch College Welcomes Ian Cook, President and CEO of Colgate-Palmolive Company for Business Leadership Lecture

NEW YORK, NY – February 25, 2014 – Baruch College invites you to meet Ian Cook, Chairman, President and CEO of the Colgate-Palmolive Company on Tuesday, March 11, as part of the Burton Kossoff Business Leadership Lecture Series.

Cook will be participating in a conversation moderated by David Birdsell, Dean of the School of Public Affairs at Baruch, regarding relevant business topics and his career experiences. The free event is scheduled at 1:15 p.m. in the Simon Conference Room 14-220 of the Newman Vertical Campus Building, located on 25th Street between Lexington and Third Avenues.

Each year, Baruch hosts prominent business leaders to share perspectives on pressing issues in business and to enable the Baruch community to gain insight into the qualities and strategies of today’s most successful business leaders. The Burton Kossoff Business Leadership Lecture Series was created in August 2003 by Phyllis L. Kossoff in memory of her husband Burton, a Baruch alumnus, who was the founder and CEO of Burton Packaging Co., Inc,. an officer of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Greater New York, and a Trustee Emeritus of the Baruch College Fund.

Colgate-Palmolive Company is a leading global consumer products company whose products are sold in more than 200 countries and territories. Mr. Cook joined Colgate in 1976 in the United Kingdom after graduating from London University (Guildhall) and progressed through a series of senior management roles around the world. He became Chief Operating Officer in 2004, with responsibility for operations in North America, Europe, Central Europe, Asia and Africa. In 2005, Mr. Cook was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for all Colgate operations worldwide. He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of Colgate’s Board of Directors in July 2007 and became Chairman in January 2009.

Mr. Cook has been a long-time champion of Colgate’s global oral health improvement initiatives.Through the “Bright Smiles, Bright Futures” oral health program, Colgate has reached more than 750 million children in more than 80 countries and in 30 languages with oral health education programs recognized by dental health agencies around the world. In the United States, this program of in-school curriculum, mobile dental vans and community awareness reaches millions of children and is complemented by a commitment to promote professional education in underserved communities.

Mr. Cook serves on the boards of Catalyst, the women’s leadership organization, and New Visions for Public Schools, a New York City education organization.
