NEW YORK, NY – February 26, 2014 -Baruch College’s Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) students won 4th place at 11th Annual Rotman International Trading Competition held February 20-22, 2014.
This is the fourth year in a row a Baruch MFE team is in Top 5 at RITC (after winning the competition in 2012 and placing 3rd in 2011 and 2013). The Baruch MFE team was one of 52 teams from universities around the world that competed in the RITC 2014. Baruch’s MFE team members are: John Han (team captain), Jun Hua, Dustin Moy, Fubo Shi, Bo Yuan, and Peng Wu.
In the annual competition, RITC utilizes simulated trading cases that closely mimic different aspects of real world markets. Having developed these cases in its state of the art Rotman Finance Lab, the RITC presented teams with challenges that are pertinent to current market trends.
“Our students showed excellent analytical and trading skills, self-discipline and consistency, and outstanding teamwork,” said Dan Stefanica, Director of the Master of Financial Engineering Program. “They executed to perfection a low risk, high reward strategy specifically designed to maximize trading P&L with minimal variance.”
Baruch students were prepared by dedicated alumni who participated in the competition in prior years, including Andrew Chang, Yike Lu, and Alexei Smirnov, and coordinated by Eugene Krel.
A record number of teams participated this year. The other teams in the Top 5 were: Laval University (tied for 1st place); LUISS University of Rome (tied for 1st place); UC Berkeley (3rd place); and the University of Calgary (5th place).
