We are pleased to announce that in January 2014, Virginia Almendarez joined the Eugenio María de Hostos Community College family as the Director of Development in the Division of Institutional Advancement.

Before taking this position, Ms. Almendarez had been the Director of Individual Giving and Special Events at the Apollo Theater since 2011. Earlier in her career, she was the Corporate Relations Manager at the Queens Theater in the Park (2002-2003), the Development Director for THE POINT Community Development Corporation in the Bronx (2003-2004), and the Director of Development for the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University. She also served as the Reunion Program Manager/Individual Giving Officer for NYU’s Division of University Development and Alumni Relations (2005-2010).

Ms. Almendarez earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management at the State University of New York at Buffalo (2001) and her Master of Arts degree in Performing Arts Administration at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education (2003). She also took courses on not-for-profit accounting and governmental reporting at NYU’s School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies.

Ms. Almendarez enjoys living an active lifestyle.  She competes in Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons and is currently a member of Team Red, White and Blue.  She also is an avid student of the Broadway Dance Center and PMT House of Dance, where she studies hip-hop and breakdancing.  In addition to volunteering with the Omega Phi Beta Foundation, which serves young girls and women, Ms. Almendarez serves as a personal development and leadership coach through Momentum Education.
