Nearly 180 guests attended the “Chefs Celebrate City Tech” foodfest hosted by the students, faculty and staff of the College’s Department of Hospitality Management in March 2014. More than 20 of the nation’s top chefs and restaurateurs provided tastings of signature dishes and desserts to the delight of all in attendance. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for City Tech hospitality management students.
Congratulations to the event chair and celebrity chef Michael Lomonaco, a 1984 graduate of the College’s hospitality management program, and Elizabeth Schaible, department chair. Other department members who helped stage the event were Rosa Abreu and John Akana, who oversaw front of the house coordination, Lynda Diaz ’87 and Susan Phillip, who oversaw student volunteers for greeting, reception, the photo booth and silent auction, Karen Goodlad, who oversaw wine and beverage coordination, and Susan Lifrieri-Lowry, who oversaw chef coordination and student culinary volunteers.
The department acknowledges the many contributions made by Jewel Escobar and the staff of the College’s Office of Development in the planning and staging of the event, including the solicitation of participating chefs and restaurateurs, event promotion, ticket sales, securing items for the evening’s silent auction, and production of a Chefs Celebrate City Tech Journal and other graphics designed by Al Vargas and Omayma Stephan, Image/Visual Communications. It is also grateful to Mr. Vargas for the filming and production of a video highlighting the event.
