NEW YORK, NY- August 26, 2014 –Baruch College’s student organization Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) participated in ALPFA’s Annual Convention, August 2-5, 2014 in Lake Buena Vista, Fl., where they were awarded the Northeastern Chapter of the Year and won the KPMG National Case Study competition.
The national conference offered ALPFA students an opportunity to network with professionals from across the United States and to attend professional development sessions, career-enhancing workshops and a career fair.
KPMG sponsored the ALPFA Student Case Study Competition, which brought together accounting students from more than 24 schools to solve complex accounting cases and present their findings to KPMG and ALPFA accounting professionals at ALPFA’s annual national convention. During the competition, students are teamed up with KPMG professionals for several months of case preparation. The KPMG advisor provides their knowledge, experience, and time to assist the students as they research potential solutions to their cases. The experience exposes the students to the possibilities of what it may be like to work at a Big Four firm.
Other convention activities included the “ALPFA’s Got Talent” Competition that showcased the Latino culture through music, song, dance and creative expression. ALPFA Baruch students competed in the talent show and showcased their dancing skills in Bachata and Merengue.
The Baruch Chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) is one of more than 160 student clubs and organizations offer through Student Life.
