Baruch College Ranks #12 Among “Most Diverse Campuses” by The Chronicle of Higher Education

NEW YORK, NY- September 5, 2014 – Baruch College is ranked #12 among the “Most Diverse Campuses” (Four-Year Public) in the United States by the Almanac of Higher Education 2014, published by The Chronicle of Higher Education. Baruch College was listed with a Diversity Index score of 75.59, out of 100. Other CUNY schools in the Top 15 for “Most Diverse Campuses (Four-Year Public) include City College (#7) and CUNY City College of Technology (#15).

This is the first time that the Almanac has published rankings for “Most Diverse Campuses” across the United States. Colleges and universities were rankedin four categories: Four-Year Public; Four-Private (non-profit); Four-Private (for profit); Two-Public; and Two-Year Private (for profit).

Baruch College ranked #10 in “U.S. (Public) Colleges With the Highest Percentages of Nonresident-Alien Students, Fall 2012”. Almost all of the colleges with more than 45 percent enrollment of nonresident aliens are small institutions with fewer than 500 students. Four seminaries and three business schools were among the 10 institutions with the largest shares of nonresident-alien students.

With 1,781foreign students, Baruch College also ranked #12, under “Master’s Institutions” in “U.S. Institutions With the Most Foreign Students, 2012-13.” Institution types in this category, are based on the 2010 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Methodolgy: Data for these rankings measured fall 2012 enrollment the latest available from the information from the U.S. Education Department’s IPEDS database. The diversity index measures, on a scale of 0 to 100, the probability that any two students at an institution are from different racial or ethnic groups. Additions to this year’s almanac include rankings of colleges with the highest percentages of nonresident aliens and those with the most students enrolled in online courses.
