CCNY SEEK student wins two fellowships

CCNY Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge student Elaine Johnson was recently named a Jeanette K. Watson Fellow for the 2015-16 year. A sophomore majoring in psychology, with a 3.9 GPA, Johnson is the only student from City College to be selected for this prestigious award.The Jeanette K. Watson Fellowship program provides summer internships, professional development opportunities and mentoring for outstanding undergraduate students from 12 select New York City colleges and universities.

Johnson will spend her summer internship in the development office of America Needs You, a nonprofit that works to improve economic opportunities for first-generation college students.

In addition to the Watson Fellowship, Johnson was also accepted to the Colin Powell Program in Leadership and Public Service, a two-year program designed to train fellows for a life of public service. The fellowship also provides a $10,000 scholarship.

Johnson recently traveled with the CCNY Study Abroad program to the Universidad VERITAS Summer Program in San Jose, Costa Rica, where she lived with a host family.
