Associate Dean Andrew Mendelson has co-authored an essay for the academic journal, The Communication Review, that analyzes the impact of technology on the future of journalism.
Mendelson, who joined the the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s administration earlier this year after eight years as chair of the Temple University Department of Journalism in Philadelphia, wrote the article with a former Temple colleague, assistant professor of journalism Brian Creech.
The full title is “Imagining the Journalist of the Future: Technological Visions of Journalism Education and Newswork.”
In their conclusion, the authors state that the purpose of the essay “is not to suggest that journalism schools, organizations, and thinkers should not be concerned with changing technologies and business models, but that prevailing discourses that exalt technology alone will not solve the industry’s problems.”
