New York Urban League President to Speak at York Breakfast

Ms. Arva Rice, President and CEO of the New York Urban League (NYUL), will be the featured speaker at the York College Executive Leadership Breakfast on April 15, 2016. She will speak on the topic, “Cultural Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace and Political Landscape.”

The York College Executive Leadership Breakfast Series was launched in the fall of 2005. Speakers over the past 11years have included non-profit leaders and business executives such as Jet Blue founder David Neeleman; Jonathan Mariner, president and CEO of Major League Baseball; hospital CEO Julius Wool; former Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Errol Louis, host of NY1’s Inside City Hall; and Bob Hardt, political director NY1 News; Carla Harris, vice chairman, Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley; and Darren Walker, president, Ford Foundation.

“I am delighted that Ms. Rice will be our featured speaker at this breakfast,” said Dr. Marcia V. Keizs, president of York College. “She has had an impressive career and will be an inspiration to our students and community. As president of NYUL, she motivates young people to pursue STEM education; and uses her platform to give voice to people and causes that might not otherwise be heard.”

Ms. Rice was selected as one of 16 leaders from across the country as Family Fellows, by the Annie E. Casey Foundation (2013-2014), a national foundation that develops solutions to build a brighter future for children. She is a recipient of The Network Journal’s “Forty Under 40” Black Achievers’ Award; a Community Award from “NV” Magazine, and received the “25 Most Influential Women in Business” award from “The Network Journal.”  Most recently she received The Chancellor’s Educational Leadership Award from CUNY and an alumni award from Northwestern University.

Ms. Rice has also served as a guest speaker, panelist and keynote speaker for both non-profit and for-profit organizations.  Most recently, she provided training for NGOs in Uruguay as part of the State Department’s Speaker’s Bureau….
