NEW YORK, NY- May 18, 2016 – Baruch College students Amit Gutin ’17 MBA andOrr Izkovich ’16 won the first annual Campus Pitch Competition, a joint initiative of the World Jewish Congress and the Israeli Consulate in New York, and a $5,000 award to launch their “Faces of Israel” photo gallery.

The Campus Pitch Competition is a semester-long campaign in which student groups from the tristate area submit proposals for events, initiatives, and ideas to broaden the conversation about Israel and Jewish issues on campus.

The students’ winning proposal was a project modeled after the popular blog and bestselling book Humans of New York to feature a walking gallery showcasing a diverse photo series of Israelis, with live music, and food stations at the gallery opening. The duo partnered with 20 photographers who took pictures all over Israel, and the exhibit debuted at Baruch College’s 25th Street Plaza on May 12, 2016.

“Winning the Campus Pitch Competition provided Amit and me the opportunity to show the different sides of Israel,” says Izkovich ’16, a senior majoring in Corporate Communications. “It was important for us to convey the message that Israel is more than just a country inflicted with conflict. We intentionally decided to put the emphasis on the positive side of life.”

Gutin, who is graduating in 2017 with an MBA in Finance and Marketing, says the goal of the exhibit was to display the diverse Israeli culture.

“The exhibition was meant to give an honest representation of the people who comprise the Israel society,” says Gutin. “Whether they are Israelis who are Jewish, Muslim, Christian, teenagers, of African descent, or LGBT. We wanted people who passed by the gallery to be able to relate and see that we are all similar.”

The students’ goal is to eventually make “Faces of Israel” a traveling exhibition.
