I am extremely pleased that we have reached a tentative agreement with the Professional Staff Congress, CUNY’s largest union representing approximately 25,000 faculty and instructional staff. Great faculty are at the heart of every great university, and CUNY is certainly no exception. I am grateful to Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio for their commitment to CUNY; we could not have concluded this agreement without their support. I also want to thank PSC President Barbara Bowen and her colleagues for the countless hours they dedicated to reaching this successful resolution. This agreement provides not only a much-needed increase in pay for our many faculty and staff, but it also includes additional provisions important to CUNY’s competitiveness for talent at all levels.
This resolution follows our agreement last week on a contract with District Council 37 and other unions that represent many non-instructional CUNY staff. With this new agreement, which is subject to approval by the CUNY Board of Trustees and ratification by the PSC membership, we have successfully concluded contracts with unions representing the vast majority of our employees.
I am pleased that we have been able to work closely and productively with our faculty and staff representatives to reach agreements that will serve CUNY, our students and our city and state well.
