Four Kingsborough students were selected to attend last week’s launch of the Careers in Entertainment Tour (CIE), an initiative of the Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation to help underserved high school and college-aged youth pursue careers in the entertainment industry in order to infuse the industry with a new generation of distinct voices.

The event served to introduce the students to careers in entertainment through networking, mentorship, and professional development. Part educational event, part job fair, the students attended panels where they heard from film and TV industry professionals about a wide variety of jobs involved in the creation, distribution and marketing entertainment projects.

The sessions left KCC student Charlotte Williams inspired: “The interactive panel created connections I never would have had before. Now I have a more tangible grasp of the industry.” Another student, Adrian L. Sinclair, appreciated hearing from veterans in the business as well as government officials advocating for diversity in entertainment.

CIE alumni of the tour will be able to stay in contact with their new-found mentors via social media and quarterly conference calls led by industry leaders.
