Top Ranking for Second Consecutive Year out of 900+ U.S. Colleges and Universities
NEW YORK, NY – November 16, 2016 – For the second consecutive year, Baruch College ranked #1 out of more than 900 colleges nationally in CollegeNET’s annual Social Mobility Index (SMI).
For the past three years, CollegeNET has been ranking four-year higher education institutions throughout the U.S. according to how effectively they enroll students with low-income backgrounds and graduate them into promising careers.
According to CollegeNET, a high SMI rankings – such as Baruch College’s #1 placement – means that “a college is contributing in a responsible want to solving the dangerous problem of economic immobility in our country.”
The organization added that the goal of the SMI is “to help redirect the attribution of ‘prestige’ in our higher education system towards colleges that are solving the major problems of our time. Today, no social, political, or economic problem is more pressing than advancing economic opportunity more broadly for our citizens.”
Baruch College’s #1 SMI ranking with CollegeNET adds to the School’s growing roster of rankings and recognitions that focus on value, student debt, and return on investment. In 2016 alone, Baruch College received the following accolades:
Excelling in Access to Affordable Education and Student Success (U.S. Department of Education)
#3 “Top 50 Best Value Colleges (Value Colleges)
#8 “Best Bang for the Buck Schools” (Washington Monthly)
“Top 200 Colleges That Pay You Back” (Princeton Review)
