This morning, City Tech distributed 100 turkeys, donated by College partner Municipal Credit Union (MCU), to students in need and CHiPS, a nonprofit soup kitchen and shelter in Brooklyn. Professor Jean Claude, Hospitality Management, and a group of his students cook a full Thanksgiving dinner—using the donated turkeys—that CHiPS’ serves each year in its soup kitchen. Professor Claude and his students also assist in serving the meals on Thanksgiving day.
MCU donates thousands of turkeys each holiday season to area non-profits, police and fire departments as well as City Tech and Medgar Evers College.
One student at City Tech who received a turkey was in tears as she described the fire that recently destroyed her family home. She thought that she wouldn’t be celebrating Thanksgiving this year in her Red Cross temporary housing. But thanks to the generosity of MCU and the support of her City Tech community, she will serve her family a holiday meal next week.
