How to Make A Donation

Listed below are the options available to faculty and staff for making monetary contributions to the international relief efforts for Haiti and Chile. These options include a fund for central office staff, donations through campus-based relief organizations or through payroll deductions. Donations are tax deductible.

1) CUNY Help for Haiti Fund

CUNY Central Office staff at all locations, members of the Board of Trustees, students, alumni and friends of the University may wish to make a tax-deductible contribution to the CUNY “Help for Haiti Fund” by sending a check or money order payable to: CUNY Research Foundation with memo indicating “Help for Haiti Fund, #78510-00-01.” Mail to: CUNY Central Disaster Relief Committee, c/o Lenora Wade, City University of New York, Division of Student Affairs, 535 E. 80th Street, Room 524, New York, New York 10075.

CUNY’s monetary donations will support two relief organizations–UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF donates 100% of every dollar given to support UNICEF’s work for children in Haiti. Doctors Without Borders continues to be effective on the ground administering medical relief.

2) CUNY Help for Chile Fund

CUNY’s Central Office Disaster Relief Committee has established a fund for charitable donations to assist Chile in the aftermath of the earthquake it suffered on February 27th. Tax-deductible donations can be offered by Central Office staff, members of the Board of Trustees, students, alumni and friends of the University. The donations can be made via check or money order payable to: CUNY Research Foundation with memo indicating “Help for Chile Fund,” #78512-00-01.” Mail to: CUNY Central Disaster Relief Committee, c/o Lenora Wade, City University of New York, Division of Student Affairs, 535 E. 80th Street, Room 524, New York, New York 10075. All donations to the “Help for Chile Fund” will go to the American Red Cross International Response Fund. The fund provides immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to those in need.

3) Campus-based Donations

Students, faculty and staff at senior and community colleges can contribute to the fund that has been set up on their campus.

4) Donations through Payroll Deductions

Available to employees on city payroll only. Community college and central office staff on city payroll who wish to make donations to Haitian relief may do so via payroll deductions. Employees will be able to specify a one-time deduction from a single paycheck or a recurring amount to be deducted from a series of paychecks. To participate, you must obtain and complete a PMS Miscellaneous Elective Deductions form from your Payroll Department. The payroll deductions will go to the “Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City,” which will be directing cash contributions to organizations that are working in the affected areas.
