Brooklyn College Receives $6.5 Million from the Estate of Walter Cerf

Brooklyn College received a bequest of $6.5 million from the estate of Walter Cerf, a philanthropist and former professor of philosophy at the college. The gift was divided equally among the Departments of Theater and of Art and the Conservatory of Music. The Cerf estate will distribute bequests of equal value to Princeton University and to the Weizman Institute for Science in Israel.

Walter Cerf, who passed away on October 26, 2001, taught at Brooklyn College from 1948 to 1972. His philanthropic interests included education, historic preservation, and social services, but his overriding love was for the arts. Read more
