April 1, 2004 | Philanthropy at CUNY

Virginia Frese Palmer, who received her BA in Media Studies at Queens College and an MA from Columbia University, has made multiple donations totaling $3.5 million to Queens College. In April 2004, in gratitude for her most recent gift of $2.5 million, one of the College’s original Spanish-style buildings was named in her honor.

Mrs. Frese Palmer enjoyed a long career as a speech pathologist/therapist until her retirement. She is the widow of Gordon Palmer Jr., who co-founded Technitrol Corporation, a global producer of precision-engineered electronic components. Her generous gift, to be used at the college’s discretion, follows a 2001 contribution of $1,050,000 for the highly regarded Queens College Speech and Hearing Center and the Queens College Women and Work Program.
