Chancellor Matthew Goldstein, Chairman Benno C. Schmidt, Jr., and the Presidents of the CUNY Colleges will announce the launch of Invest in CUNY: Expanding the Vision, at a press conference to be held at the CUNY Graduate Center on March 25, 2009. As the most ambitious, comprehensive campaign ever undertaken by an urban, public university, Expanding the Vision builds on the original campaign launched in 2004 and seeks to reach $3 billion in total philanthropic investment in the 23 colleges and professional schools of CUNY by the year 2015.
The overwhelming success of Invest in CUNY, Invest in New York ($1.436 billion raised four years ahead of schedule on an original goal of $1.2 billion) has inspired the University to embark on this bold and ambitious second phase. The response from alumni, businesses, foundations, and friends in support of the colleges of CUNY has been led by more than 200 individuals, corporations, and foundations that were recognized as founding members of The Chancellor’s Society. This Society celebrates those donors who have made leadership commitments of $1 million or more to the Colleges of the City University of New.
Expanding the Vision identifies five overarching priorities for support, including: Investing in Faculty, Advancing the Decade of Science, Supporting Student Excellence, and Opportunity, Creating a Culture of Philanthropy, and Engaging the Community. Each college will identify their individual campus initiatives within these broad categories and set campaign timetables and philanthropy targets.
