Job opening: Full-time Editorial Writer at The Record (Bergen County, NJ)
The Record’s Opinion Department has an opening for a full-time editorial writer. The candidate should have an ability to write clear, tight editorials with a definite point of view. Ideally, we are looking to add a moderate to conservative voice to our page.
The Opinion Department is a small shop. The candidate needs the ability to work in a collegial atmosphere, write quickly and be willing to pitch in where needed in the department. Our editorial focus is North Jersey. We comment most frequently about regional issues. Familiarity with New Jersey, while not a requirement, is a plus.
Although the prime responsibility of the job is writing, editorial writers are asked to do some editing, proofread columns, letters to the editor and Sunday Opinion pieces.
Finally, the editorial writer will participate in editorial boards with a variety of newsmakers, including candidates for public office.
Applicants must have at least five years of daily newspaper experience, either as a reporter or as an editor. If you’re interested, please see a cover letter on why you want the job, five samples of your writing (editorials and perspective pieces) and a resume to Douglas Clancy, Assistant Managing Editor, The Record, 150 River St., Hackensack, NJ 07601.
