Job Opening/Assignment Editor/The Record (Bergen County, NJ)
The Record has an opening for a news assignment editor. We’re looking for candidates with strong news judgment, top-flight language skills, a persistent sense of urgency about covering the news, and a true appreciation for the reporting/editing partnership. We want an editor who can help define and focus beats and will strive for a healthy mix of hard-hitting news/enterprise pieces as well as entertaining features. We want someone who can help his or her staff meet uniformly high standards without sacrificing individuality. We want someone who is interested in both specialty theme beats and municipal coverage, since it’s likely he or she will be responsible for both. And we want someone who gets really excited by a great story. Candidates should have at least seven years of daily newspaper experience, including at least three as a supervisor.
