SUMMER 2009 EDITORIAL INTERNSHIPS AT THE ECONOMIST
CUNY JOURNALISM INTERNSHIPS AT THE ECONOMIST
The Economist Group has partnered with The City University of New York to launch the first-ever internship program at The Economist (North America). The editorial internships will be open to highly qualified CUNY students who will be rewarded with an in-depth opportunity to learn about journalism and the business of magazine publishing, academic credit and an hourly salary. Internships will last six to eight weeks and require a 25 to 35 hour a week commitment.
REQUIREMENTS FOR EDITORIAL INTERNSHIPS
-Minimum Grade Point Average of 3.2
-Major in Journalism, English or related area.
-Writing Experience evidenced by three writing samples.
-Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and additional Internet and business software.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Experience working effectively in teams and the ability to work independently.
-Multi-tasking abilities.
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
-Writing articles and briefs.
-Article production in content management system.
-Idea generation for departments and features.
-General support of editorial desk.
-Reporting, research and other associated tasks.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
-Three writing samples (preferably published articles in college newspapers or other publications).
-Resume
-Letter of interest.
-Official copy of college transcript.
Ideal candidates will be able to offer critical and creative thinking skills. They will also possess a strong work ethic and be highly organized and responsible. Candidates will also have and maintain a professional image. Students with high enthusiasm for media and previous internship, college newspaper and office work experience are especially welcome.
