The LaunchPad for Justice, an initiative of the Community Legal Resource Network (CLRN) at CUNY Law that enables recent graduates to represent clients before being admitted to the New York State Bar, has announced its 20 Justice Fellows from the class of 2011.
Special practice orders signed by the Appellate Division-Second Department and Appellate Division-First Department enable Justice Fellows to appear and represent clients in Civil Court through the “Volunteer Lawyers for a Day” program. Fellows represent low-income New Yorkers facing eviction, foreclosure, and landlords who refuse to repair heating systems, hot water systems, and other essentials.
The 2011 LaunchPad for Justice Fellows are
Sarah Marie Young, and
Lisa Marie Zayas.
Fellows are trained and supervised by attorneys in CLRN and court-employed attorneys.
The LaunchPad for Justice initiative was developed with the Honorable Fern A. Fisher, the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge of the New York City Courts, who has statewide responsibility for access to justice issues.
