Judge Bryanne Hamill (’90) Presents at Foster Care Conference

March 27, 2012

Judge Bryanne Hamill (’90) will be speaking about her New York City Transition Planning Court for youth transitioning out of foster care in New York City at the Adolescent Well Being: Supporting Foster Youth on a Successful Path to Adulthood conference in June.

The conference will present the findings of “The Adolescent Brain: New Research and its Implications for Young People Transitioning from Foster Care,” a report published by the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative. The opening plenary will present an overview of the report’s recommendations. Subsequent plenaries and workshops will expand on the recommendations and help practitioners to consider ways to integrate the concepts into practice.

The conference is co-sponsored by the New York State Child Welfare Court Improvement Project, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Casey Family Programs, the Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children, the Office of Court Administration’s Attorney for the Child Contracts Program, and the Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative.

Judge Hamill is widely recognized for her exemplary work in the New York City courts on behalf of children and families. A member of the Law School’s Board of Visitors, Judge Hamill has also developed a seminar on family law, which she teaches each spring at CUNY Law.
