June 15, 2012

Alum Danny Kirchoff (’09) is spotlighted in the June 2012 Equal Justice Works Newsletter for his continuing efforts to provide legal services to low-income transgender Californians. Working through Project Access, the initiative he launched while an Equal Justice Works Fellow in 2009 at the Transgender Law Center (TLC) in San Francisco, CA, Kirchoff continues his dedication to supporting the rights of low-income transgendered individuals. According to Kirchoff, “the most significant legal issues faced by the transgender and gender non-conforming individuals who contact [TLC] are discrimination and harassment in the areas of employment and health care and access to identity documents that reflect individuals gender identity.” Through Project Access, Kirchoff has helped thousands of transgendered members of the community overcome economic and legal challenges. “I am particularly proud of my success in helping clients challenge denials of medically necessary health care under California’s Medi-Cal program and in working with homeless shelters across California to end discrimination against homeless transgender people,” Kirschoff said.
