Farah Diaz-Tello (’09) on Mississippi Case Against Woman for Stillbirth

Alum Farah Diaz-Tello (’09), a staff attorney with theĀ National Advocates for Pregnant Women, spoke to Mother Jones for an article about a Mississippi woman indicted for manslaughter after the stillborn birth of her baby. The district attorney in the case argued the baby’s death was a result of the woman’s methamphetamine use. The state Supreme Court is expected to rule soon on whether the case can move forward. Diaz-Tello said if prosecutors prevail in this case, the state would be setting a “dangerous precedent” that “unintentional pregnancy loss can be treated as a form of homicide.”
