On June 11, Dublin City University will confer an honorary degree to Brian O’Dwyer, CUNY School of Law Foundation board member. O’Dwyer is a celebrated lawyer and lobbyist for immigration rights who has received numerous awards recognizing his tireless work, both as a humanitarian and as an advocate for the underprivileged. He is the senior partner at O’Dwyer and Bernstien, LLP. Most recently, O’Dwyer was appointed Commissioner of the United States National Commission of UNESCO by former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. President of DCU, Professor Brian MacCraith, said O’Dwyer personifies “the very best qualities of the Irish-American family in New York.”
In fall 2011, CUNY School of Law presented O’Dwyer with a Dean’s Award for his outstanding commitment to social justice. At that event, CUNY Law Dean Michelle J. Anderson said, “His long history as a social justice lawyer and an advocate for peace in Northern Ireland is an inspiration to our students.” Read more in the fall 2011 issue of the CUNY Law magazine (page 3).
