From: William A. Tramontano, Provost & VP for Academic Affairs
Subject: Appointment of Brooklyn College Chief Librarian
Date: June 4, 2009

It is my pleasure to recommend to the Board of Trustees the appointment of Professor Stephanie Walker as Brooklyn College’s Chief Librarian and Executive Director of Academic Information Technology effective July 1, 2009.

Stephanie joined the Brooklyn College Library faculty as Associate Librarian for Information Services in August 2006, and has served as the Acting Chief Librarian since February 2008. To the position, she brings an equally strong mix of leadership experiences in traditional library administration and academic information technology management. In the years prior to her appointment at Brooklyn College, she served in the Harvard Medical Library as Manager of Collection Services and as University Librarian and Dean of Mount Saint Vincent University (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Her record demonstrates a strong commitment to advocacy for libraries and information literacy, attests to her collaborative leadership style, and demonstrates her own personal
dedication to scholarship and service.

Professor Walker was appointed as the result of a national search chaired by Professor Matthew Moore (Philosophy). Other search committee members were Bill Gargan (Library), Mariana Regalado (Library), Bob Viscusi (Wolfe Institute), Colette Wagner (Provost’s Office), and Curtis Kendrick (University Librarian, non-voting).

Please join the Library/AIT staff, the members of the Search Committee and me in welcoming Stephanie to her new duties and wishing her every success.
