As part of the Chancellor’s initiative and CUNY’s effort to assist with Sandy Relief, there is considerable need for our students, staff and faculty to participate in hurricane relief efforts. To that end, the Central Office of Student Affairs is organizing a Hurricane Sandy volunteer relief opportunity this Saturday, November 17th for interested students, faculty and staff. This is a great opportunity for students, faculty and staff to organize a group and join the effort.
The NCC will be joining City Council Speaker Quinn’s efforts to provide support to hard hit areas in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Due to the changing nature of area needs, volunteers will not be assigned to a community until that morning, and are asked to be available for the entire time; alternative transportation out of the area may not be available until the shuttle buses depart. Additionally, volunteers may be assigned to an environmentally distressed area, and are advised to wear water resistant or waterproof footwear, dress warmly–and in clothes that may get ruined or dirty–and bring water.
Buses will leave at 10 a.m. from 250 Broadway (between Murray St. and Park Place in Lower Manhattan) across from City Hall. Please look for the Gray Line New York double-decker buses. Expect to return to City Hall at around 5:00 p.m.
Students, who are interested in volunteering, may email Carolee Ramsay at the Office of Student Engagement and Success at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Faculty and staff may email Xena Yehya at the Office of Human Resources at: email@example.com.
Please provide your name, email, and cell number by no later than 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 15th so that transportation will be provided for all.
Thank you for your support as we help to rebuild in the aftermath of Sandy.
