NCC Cares Sandy Relief Fund

November 29, 2012 | Uncategorized

Hurricane Sandy impacted our college in a multitude of ways.  Many students, faculty, and staff have been living without power, others have lost everything—food, clothing, even their homes.  In response to this disaster, the New Community College at CUNY established the NCC Cares Sandy Relief Fund to provide emergency support for students, faculty and staff as they rebuild their lives and weather the aftermath of the storm. So far, you have been very responsive in participating in the canned food drive initiated and coordinated by Drs. Blake and Saint-Louis. However, in addition, I invite you to make a donation based on specific items today.

Your donation will go directly towards helping NCC students, faculty, and staff impacted by the storm. You can support this effort by bringing items needed by storm victims to Room 201. I will track these donations on my gift tracker form and provide you with constant feedback on our progress.  Needed items identified by our Single-Stop Specialist, Rachael Ibrahim, for students and their families so far include:

  1. Baby clothes and all kinds of baby items (size unknown at this time)- child is 2 years old
  2. Furniture (couches, baby crib)
  3. Clothing for adult family members (2 women and 1 man)
  4. Flashlights
  5. Metro Cards
  6. Food vouchers/gift certificates for hot food
  7. Non-perishable food items (pastas, crackers, canned goods, pudding cups, dry foods etc.)

Thank you for all the work you do to make NCC such a warm and welcoming place for our students.  I thank you for your generosity.  Feel free to share this information with family, friends, and professional associates who may be interested in supporting this cause.  If you have any questions regarding donations to the NCC Cares Sandy Relief Fund, please feel free to contact Carolee Ramsay, Student Engagement Coordinator, at or 6463138019.
