Since last year, a group of enthusiastic Guttman second-year students have worked alongside English Instructor, Chet Jordan, to design and launch the College’s first campus newspaper, “FastTimes N.Y.C”. The goal of FastTimes N.Y.C is to provide a platform for all students — those who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism as well as those who are not and to express their ideas about what is going on in the world around them.
The online newspaper, which is currently staffed by 35 first and second year students, voices the interests of Guttman students and is divided into sections, including campus life, fashion, sports and an opinion column. Each section will be updated monthly by its “section editor” with the exception of campus life, which will be updated weekly.
To celebrate the launch of the site, the newspaper staff hosted the FastTimes N.Y.C launch party for the college community when the newspaper went live on October 18, 2013. The staff plans to host similar events throughout the year, including a fashion show and a photography contest.
“I see it growing tremendously as everyone seems very interested,” said Daniel Malvey, Editor-in-Chief of FastTimes N.Y.C, when asked what he sees for the future of the newspaper.
