On June 6, 20 professionals from Deloitte, one of the world’s leading professional firms providing audit, tax, enterprise risk and financial advisory services, were on campus to lead a day of professional development for students as part of the organization’s annual IMPACT Day. After Deloitte’s visiting staff introduced themselves and provided a brief overview of the day’s planned activities, students were split into smaller groups for more casual ice-breaker activities.
The Deloitte volunteers then led an insightful session about professional image and social media, covering proper business etiquette related to conversation, dress, social media/electronic communications, and dining, followed by a presentation to students about how to prepare for interviews. At lunch a ‘straight-talk’ panel enabled students to ask the volunteers questions. Students honed their interview skills preparation by watching the volunteers’ mock interview demonstrations. The day ended with final questions and group reflections.
“This was a great opportunity for students to meet professionals who work at Deloitte and to gain valuable insights into the world of work,” commented Rochel Pinder, Director of the Office of Partnerships & Community Engagement.
