Guttman students Rosellie Minier, Daphney Oliveira, Kristine Anne Perez, Gabriela Rosario and Shomari Townsend are the recipients of the Guttman Transfer Scholarship, scheduled to be awarded for the first time this fall. All five have been accepted as transfer students into CUNY senior colleges including, Lehman, City, Hunter and Brooklyn College.
More than half of the graduating classes at CUNY’s senior colleges are transfer students, with most coming from CUNY’s community colleges. As part of the Guttman Foundation’s College Success Initiative, a $9 million endowment was created to establish the Guttman Transfer Scholarship Fund. All funds will be used to increase the number of academically qualified, low-income CUNY community college students who continue their education at CUNY senior colleges. Recipients of the scholarship are drawn from all seven CUNY community colleges and receive grants of $4,000 over two years to complete their bachelor’s degrees. Brooklyn College, City College, Hunter College, Lehman College and Queens College are among the senior colleges currently participating in the program.
