On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. The law and subsequent changes made to the law focus on provisions to expand coverage, control health care costs and improve the health care delivery system. Open enrollment for health insurance coverage through the Marketplace begins on October 1, 2013 for coverage starting as early as January 1, 2014.
