Banned from her village at sixteen years of age for the sin of learning to read and write, Estrella Thompson, the heroine in “The Girl With the Golden Shoes,” is forced to swim against the tide of indignation and invent her own life. Critically acclaimed, Jamaican-born author, Colin Channer, reads excerpts from his latest novella, which has been hailed as a “nearly perfect moral fable” by Russell Banks, as part of a book signing sponsored by the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College.
