Best-selling authors Peter Carey and Colum McCann were among the writers who dazzled the audience with selections from their latest works at the 2008 Conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, held at the New York Hilton. They, along with Tom Sleigh, Donna Masini, Jan Heller Levi and Louise DeSalvo — who also joined in the readings — form the core faculty of the Hunter College MFA program. Australian native and two-time Booker Prize winner Carey offered a taste from his latest book of fiction, “His Illegal Self,†while the Irish-born Prof. McCann shared an excerpt from his soon-to-be-published novel, “Let The Great World Spin.â€
