Chancellor Matthew Goldstein discusses the University’s fiscal future and efforts to protect its academic core mission in the face of the worsening economy. The University is meeting the challenges, he said, through continuing budget restructuring and efficiencies, philanthropy and revenues from record enrollment growth. Increasingly, public universities are looking to the federal government for assistance and the Chancellor outlines CUNY’s partnership with other prominent universities and the Carnegie Corporation in a national effort to promote support for public higher education. The Chancellor also details recent achievements, including a new facility for Hunter College’s School of Social Work and the secured new financing to rebuild Fiterman Hall.
