When Eagles Dared
In the borough of “homes and churches,” the Brooklyn Eagle (1841-1955) celebrated life. Then a final deadline called, and old hometown Brooklyn lost more than a newspaper. Brooklyn lost part its collective memory; something like “an amnesiac who has been told his name, but has no idea what the name connotes and symbolizes and, therefore, little sense of his true talents and possibilities.” Listen as a distinguished panel of journalists convening at Brooklyn College on March 15, 2005 recalled the Eagle on the 50th Anniversary of its demise.
