Chancellor's Report to the Board of Trustees (June 26, 2006)
In what is being described as an historic outpouring of governmental support, the University’s approved state budget will increase to $1.438 billion in 2006-2007. Chancellor Goldstein also reports to the Board of Trustees on CUNY’s Decade of Science, new capital construction for science facilities, a new dean for the CUNY Honors College, and enrollment at two new initiatives opening in Fall 2006, Teacher Academy and CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

More than 7,000 callers received help at the fourth Citizenship Now! — a week-long, call-in service sponsored by CUNY and the Daily News. Ready for Your Close Up? Get Ready for Geo Technology
The very first cases of West Nile virus in the United States were diagnosed in New York City in 1999. Since then, Hunter College Professor Sean Ahearn has used high tech maps to help public health officials combat this mosquito-borne illness and determine what parts of the city are at high risk. The advanced technology is called geographic information systems—the same technology that allows you to pull up a map from google.
Ahearn discusses how he’s been able to use it in three very different scientific studies.

"Silva" Lining: Her way to Salk Institute for Biological Studies
In high school Andrea Silva thought “math and science weren’t for me” and never imagined that one day she would help carry on the legacy of Dr. Jonas Salk, the conqueror of polio and one of the great scientists of the 20th century. Now Ms. Silva, a CCNY grad, has been named a Salk Scholar, received an internship at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, and will attend Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Listen Now ![]()
