Chancellor Proposes Math and Science Initiative

Chancellor Matthew Goldstein has challenged educators with an innovative idea he says could help ensure the U.S. remains competitive in the 21st century. With fewer college students in the U.S. enrolling in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, Goldstein is calling for a program that would not only identify and nurture promising students from an early age through high school; but also grant these high academic achievers acceptance into some of the best PhD programs in the country as soon as they enter college. A similar model is used in the study of medicine where students are admitted into baccalaureate programs with the promise of moving on to medical school.

Izaguirre, who is bound for Stanford University’s Ph.D. physics program, shares his immigrants experience and how he found his passion and purpose at CCNY. “I came to City not knowing what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” he said, “here I found my true calling–physics.”

An Evening with Colin Channer

Critically acclaimed, Jamaican-born author, Colin Channer, reads excerpts from his latest novella, which has been hailed as a “nearly perfect moral fable” by Russell Banks, as part of a book signing sponsored by the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College.
