For the month of March, Hunter College’s men’s volleyball sophomore Alexandru Barbulescu has been named the CUNYAC/ Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. This is the first time the sophomore has won the accolade.

In the 2013-14 CUNYAC/US Army Men’s Track and Field Championship at the New Balance Track and Field Center, CCNY earned their fourth straight crown and sixth overall. CCNY led the field followed by York, Hunter, Lehman, and Medgar Evers. Kingsborough took home the community college crown followed by Queensborough and Bronx. In the 2013-14 CUNYAC/US Army Women’s Track and Field Championship at the New Balance Track and Field Center, Hunter was able to come out on top for the first time since 2005. Hunter led the field followed by CCNY, York, Medgar Evers, and Lehman. Queensborough took home the community college crown followed by Kingsborough.

The Brooklyn Bulldogs took home their second consecutive championship with a victory in the 2014 CUNYAC Cheerleading Championship. Their eight championship in nine years was capped in front of over 1,000 fans. The Bulldogs won with 264.5 points which beat CSI at 227 points, John Jay with 207, York compiling 189.5, Kingsborough racking up 149.5, and BMCC rounding out the field 141.

For the month of February, Baruch College’s men’s volleyball senior Steven Coniglio has been named the CUNYAC/Hospital for Special Surgery Scholar-Athlete of the Month. This is the third time the senior will be named the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month.

The City University of New York Athletic Conference ushered in its 49th Annual Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournaments with its Basketball All-Star Luncheon at The Water Club restaurant in Manhattan, announcing its yearly all-stars and honors. The postseason kick-off event for the student-athletes, in both the Community College and Four-Year College divisions, was highlighted by the conference’s top players and four Burt Beagle Sportsmanship honorees.

The York College men’s basketball team upset the top-seeded College of Staten Island, 87-84, in a thrilling matchup to win the 2014 CUNY Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship on the campus of City College Friday Night. With the win, York now receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The 2014 CUNYAC Women’s Basketball Championship Finals at CCNY Nat Holman Gymnasium featured #2 seed Baruch Bearcats versus the #4 seed Hunter Hawks. This final was historic for the CUNY Athletic Conference being as the contest was the first ever to be broadcasted live on ESPN3 and Time Warner Cable channel 418. By the end, more history was made as Baruch won its seventh consecutive CUNYAC women’s basketball championship, 70-54.

The 49th Annual CUNYAC Community College Women’s Basketball Championship kicked off today with a matchup between the #1 seeded Queensborough Tigers and the Bronx Broncos. Earlier this month, the Tigers and Broncos faced off in Bayside. Queensborough came out on top with a 69-44 win.

This year’s CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship was dubbed the “Battle of the Bronx” as the Bronx Broncos faced the Hostos Caimans for the 2014 title. Last time the two met, on February 11th, Hostos came out on top with a 91-59 victory.
