Cool Roofs Planned Across CUNY’s Rooftops

In an effort to assist the city with energy conservation, Sustainable CUNY Conserves has begun a process which will see well over 100,000 square feet of roof surface converted into cool roofs. Every CUNY college has been asked to nominate candidate roofs, which will be covered in special reflective white paint that lowers roof temperature during warmer months, in turn reducing the cooling load for that building and saving energy. The initiative is part of New York City’s ‘Cool Roofs’ program, which has already created over 3.5million square feet of cool roofs citywide.
