CUNY Conserves initiated the Sustainable Investment Fund (SIF) in 2013 with a million dollar donation from a philanthropist. The idea was simple: a revolving fund for efficiency measures on CUNY campuses that produce near immediate savings that are utilized to initially pay back the fund to ensure support for future projects. Now in it’s fourth release, the SIF program has been a tremendous success, saving campuses millions of energy dollars annually and garnering interest from campuses across the country. The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has now added over $250,000 to the SIF fund, enabling campuses to initiate more projects, studies and measures that can continue to help CUNY’s 300+ buildings transition to sustainable and efficient measures.
